The World Affairs Council of Maine is honoured to welcome Amb. Robert Cekuta for a discussion of U.S. Energy Security and Climate Policy moderated by Jeff Thaler, University of Maine Law School.

About the talk

Since the 1970s, U.S. energy security was defined by the availability of a predictable and affordable fuel supply. Today, changing global realities, new technologies, and the ever-present dangers posed by climate change require new thinking and a re-evaluation of what it means to achieve “energy security.” This talk will consider the range of factors driving U.S. energy policy, including how we evaluate risks, what constitutes a critical resource, and the shifting global demand landscape. It will also question whether unilateral or even bilateral approaches are sufficient to obtain energy security, and the need for Americans, as well as citizens in other countries, to take the need for energy and the role energy plays in our…
